English-Speaking Union of Ft. Lauderdale
In 2005, Mr. Philip McGrath developed a website for the Ft. Lauderdale Branch of the English-Speaking Union of the United States. We wanted the site to be attractive and easy to use - even for a group with limited computer skills.
We planned to use the website to: 1) increase membership, 2) recruit volunteers, and 3) inform teachers and students.
Our President, Membership VP, Education Director, Recording Secretary, and Photographer all sent mail to the Philip, who edited and put it together and then magically made it appear on the internet.
He developed a very colorful, attractive website that did attract new members and proved particularly useful for providing information about our annual Shakespeare Competition to the Ft. Lauderdale schools. The Events Calendar and Photo Gallery were also very popular.
Links to other websites were woven into our site in such a way that it was very easy to use.
We were delighted with his work. The website brought us praise, prestige, and recognition and we received many complements from other Branches about the quality of our website. At that time, I was Recording Secretary of the Branch and worked closely with Mr. McGrath who met all of our design needs. In fact, we were so pleased that our Board voted to give him a $500 bonus.
In 2009, the National Office of the English-Speaking Union decided to consolidate all of the Branch websites, so our independent website no longer exists.
